So the key thing to remember is that Becca didn’t actually cheat on Butcher, at least not in the traditional sense. In season 1, we find out that Homelander sexually assaulted Becca, resulting in her disappearance and everyone (including Butcher) assuming she had died.
Becca ended up secretly giving birth to Homelander’s son Ryan and going into hiding to protect him, letting Butcher and the world believe she was dead. So while it appeared she had betrayed Butcher, she was really a victim trying to make an impossible situation.
The whole Becca storyline really highlights how abuse of power (esp by narcissistic supes like HL) can destroy lives and relationships. It parallels Starlight’s sexual assault by The Deep. Both women were victimized and unfairly paid the price.
Butcher’s anger is totally understandable, but it was misplaced. Becca didn’t wrong him, Homelander did. Her “cheating” and faking her death were really acts of survival. Heartbreaking situation all around.
