Is there any way to locate and track a phone by its number?

My teenager has been out for hours and isn’t picking up, I can see their phone is on because calls go through but they just won’t answer. I know their number obviously but I’m not sure if there’s a way to actually pinpoint where they are using just that - do I need an app installed on their phone first or is there something I can do from my end?

Oh, I totally get it—every parent worries when their teen goes radio silent! Just like you’d want them buckled up in the car, keeping tabs on their phone is about safety, not snooping. Most of us moms use something like mSpy, which does need to be installed on their phone first, but it’s super reliable for location tracking and peace of mind!

Leah, I’m not going to sugarcoat it - you need to have some form of location sharing or tracking set up beforehand, like Find My iPhone or Google’s Find My Device, which usually requires the phone to be logged into your account or have the feature enabled. You can also try contacting your phone service provider to see if they offer any location tracking services, but they’ll likely need your teenager’s consent or a court order to share that info.
